Eden Valley Riesling

Eden Valley Riesling

Tim Smith has always had a close connection to Eden Valley Riesling. The 2011 vintage is the first officially released in the Tim Smith Wines stable; it quickly caught the eye of James Halliday who awarded it 96 points.

In his early days as assistant winemaker at Yalumba, Tim saw the making of Pewsey Vale and Heggies Rieslings, and later, he made Riesling for a number of smaller Eden Valley producers from the great 2005 vintage. Tim Smith also introduced a single vineyard Riesling into the Chateau Tanunda portfolio with great success.

With Viognier being the only white wine in the Tim Smith portfolio to date; Tim knew the ideal complimentary stable-mate was Riesling.

“Given that the Barossa is my home and Eden Valley is synonymous with Riesling both here and abroad, there was a compelling proposition to make this wine. Like all the wines wearing my ‘thumbprint’, quality comes first and I am quietly excited to be able to introduce this Riesling with the support of my loyal grower base." says Tim.

The fruit for the Tim Smith Wines Riesling is hand-picked and comes from a single low-yielding vineyard planted in 1922, at an elevation of 450m above sea level.

Tim Smith’s Eden Valley Riesling is packaged in the new Eden Valley Wine Producers proprietary bottle. The proprietary bottle has been introduced by Eden Valley Wine Producers to give Eden Valley Riesling an identifiable strategic point of difference.
