2013 Eden Valley Riesling

100% Eden Valley Riesling. 11.5% Alc.

The 2013 Eden Valley Riesling continues in the style I really enjoy drinking; slightly earlier picking ensures retention of natural acid, and the varietal aromas of lemon and lime prevail, with yeast derived bath salts on the nose. The palate is linear and focused, again, citrus fruits prevailing, with great piercing natural acidity underpinning the palate.

2014 Eden Valley Viognier.

100% Eden Valley Viognier. 13% Alc.

Sourced from a single vineyard in Eden Valley. The grapes were whole bunch pressed to a combination of French oak puncheons and hogsheads. The juice is not clarified before fermentation, and the wine ferments using the naturally present yeasts. Lees stirring post fermentation is incorporated, and there is no MLF. Barrel selection is done to achieve the final blend.

This release shows classic varietal aromas ginger, malt biscuit and kaffir lime leaf. The palate is textural, without the often made mistake if being overtly apricot like.

2013 MGS

(Mataro 45%, Grenache 33%,  Shiraz 22%)

100% Barossa Valley. 14.5% Alc.

From a combination of vineyards in the Barossa Valley. All older vine Mataro and Grenache selections are used, with vine age up to about 114 years of age.

This release shows, at an early stage, great richness and structure as a consequence of this low yielding vintage. The nose has the brooding aromas that only old vine Mataro can deliver-dark plum fruit, and exotic, Kirsch like characters. The palate has the same fruit flavours, with great intensity. One for cellaring perhaps?

2012 Barossa Shiraz

100% Shiraz - Barossa. Alc. 14.5%

This Shiraz is sourced from 5 vineyards on the ‘floor’ of the Barossa Valley plus 3 in Eden Valley which includes one 110 year old parcel. It was bottled slightly earlier to preserve the primary attributes of the quality fruit.

This wine was aged in French & American oak and shows great primary, regional characters of plum, blackberry, anise and cedar oak. The palate is layered and plush, and the fruit tannin dominates the oak tannin. Medium to full bodied, this wine is long and comes to a clean finish with the fruit tannin providing a defined, but not abrupt end.

2013 Barossa Mataro.

100% Mataro.

Alc. 14.5%

Bandol in Provence, France, has long been a ‘go-to’ region of choice for Tim Smith and give inspiration for this wine.

Only a limited amount made this year due to the very low yielding vintage. 3 different vineyards made the cut; 2 from Greenock, and 1 from Light Pass. Vine age 50-114 years of age. The resultant wine is deceptively powerful and needs some air to really show its majesty. The palate is indicative of the vintage; structured and lithe-one for the cellar for sure.

Suggested food match; this wine is perfect with roast duck or pork belly with steamed Asian vegetables.

2012 Reserve Shiraz

100% Shiraz – Eden & Barossa Valleys.

Alc. 14.5%

This 2012 ‘TSW’ Shiraz is based on a small vineyard in the Northern end of the Eden Valley, with minor components from the Barossa Valley floor. It is matured in all French oak, mostly larger format 500 litre.

It shows the sub regional characters of aniseed, savoury plum, and white pepper. The palate is lively and has fine, powder like tannins. Fruit flavours of plum, kirsch and dark cherry prevail. Oak maturation has contributed mocha like characters.

Cellar confidently into the long term....

2012 Grenache - Barossa Valley - FIRST RELEASE.

100% Grenache - Barossa Valley

Alc. 14%

The fruit is handpicked from two vineyards in the Barossa Valley, both approximately 80 years of age.

The wine has been made using old world winemaking techniques including whole bunch fermentation, warm ferment temperatures and aging on yeast lees in French oak barrels with no fining or filtration.
